Meteorologists Eileen Javora and Mark Finan of KCRA-TV3 (NBC) invited me to join them on a live Facebook podcast last evening.

We discussed fall color and where to find it, revealing a couple of (new to me) places to explore (late October) in the Sacramento area: Empire Mine and pistachio orchards. Road trip!

  1. I love all the great information you give on fall colors etc. but am I missing something? I can’t find anything on Lundy Canyon. It’s one of my favorite places to photograph fall colors. Thank you Dan

    • Dan,

I’ve not received reports from anyone who’s visited Lundy Canyon, this autumn. However, I’m sure that will change shortly. As we have reported, near peak is showing only at the highest elevations (which takes some effort to reach). Nearly all the areas one can drive to are still green to lime, though that can change quickly. This is tracking right in line with what happened last year. So, my suggestion would be to search for “Lundy” on the home page and go to those posts that showed it at peak last year. Time your trip at or slighly ahead of last year’s peak and you should be fine for scheduling a trip to the color up Lundy. Great hike!
